Assistant Professor of Science Methods (Multiple Subjects Credential) - Tenure-Track, Dept. of Teacher Edu. (Fall 2019) POSITION: Assistant Professor of Science Methods (Multiple Subjects Credential) One Tenure-track appointment to begin in Fall 2019. Description of duties: Teach multiple subjects credential program courses in science methods. Facilitate teacher candidates' development in teaching science to K-8 students. Balance instructional goals with disciplinary core ideas, crosscutting concepts, and scientific and engineering practices as indicated in the Next Generation Science Standards. Explanations, demonstrations, and class activities serve to illustrate science concepts and principles, scientific investigation, and experimentation. Model and explain how to emphasize the nature of science, the integration of engineering design, and the connections between science, society, technology, and the environment. Develop beginning teachers' skills to integrate mathematical concepts and practices into science pedagogy. Facilitate and model disciplinary discourse practices that foster evidence-based explanations and argumentation's in the content area. Use and evaluate strengths and limitations of classroom technology. Supervise student teachers' field experiences throughout the service region. Teach at the main campus, Stockton Center and other locations as needed.-- Participation in Multiple Subject Credential Program development, research, creative activity, with service to university and the K-12 community is required for retention, promotion and tenure. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Earned doctorate in education or closely related field. ABD considered with completion by time of appointment. 2. Demonstrated expertise in the teaching of NGSS. 3. Minimum of three full years of teaching experiences in a K-8 classroom. 4. Strong evidence of teaching effectiveness (Note: Applicant must include evaluations of prior teaching experience.) 5. Strong general training with skills and experience in assessment, curriculum, and instruction of students. 6. Potential for or record of scholarly/creative activity appropriate to rank. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS A potential candidate's consideration will be enhanced by providing evidence of experience in university teaching and field supervision; experience teaching English Language Learners, and knowledge of ELD standards; knowledge of the regulations of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and local, state and national trends. Strong knowledge of K-8 NGSS and instructional technology. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:-- The Department of Teacher Education offers professional bilingual and non-bilingual teacher credentialing programs in Multiple Subject, (elementary education, Single Subject (secondary education) and also Education Specialist, Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe credential. Credential Programs developed strong partnerships with neighboring schools where students complete fieldwork and take many credential courses. All programs are accredited through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). CAMPUS & AREA:-- California State University Stanislaus serves the San Joaquin Valley and is a critical educational resource for a six- county region of approximately 1.5 million people.
