fostering a humane community. Position overview The Wildlife
Rehabilitation Veterinarian ensures that patients in the Wildlife
Rehabilitation Program receive the highest quality veterinary
medical care in accordance with veterinary standards, state laws,
and ethical practices. This role involves performing medical
evaluations, procedures, and treatments for wildlife, with a
primary focus on animal health and welfare. Essential Duties and
Responsibilities: Examine, diagnose, and prescribe treatment for
animals in the Wildlife Rehabilitation Program as needed. Provide
emergency medical care as necessary. Collaborate with wildlife
managers to identify, contain, and treat contagious diseases,
including zoonotic diseases. Work with the Director of Operations
and Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager to establish and implement
medical policies and procedures. Ensure animal medical records are
maintained according to legal requirements. Provide wildlife staff
with clear information regarding animal conditions, diagnoses,
treatment plans, and long-term prognosis. Participate in continuing
education to stay current with veterinary practices. Perform
diagnostic tests such as x-rays, blood work, cytology, and fecals.
Lead and provide directions to Registered Veterinary Technicians.
Induce and maintain animals under anesthesia and operate anesthetic
machines and surgical monitoring equipment. Ensure the safety and
monitoring of animals under anesthesia. Work with the Wildlife
Manager to maintain department equipment in good working order.
Euthanize animals or assist in euthanasia as required, in
compliance with policies and state laws. Perform animal necropsies
and write reports when needed. Maintain a valid DEA license for the
designated locations. Attend continuing education seminars to
maintain professional development. Maintain a clean and sanitary
work environment. Collaborate effectively with all members of the
Wildlife Rehabilitation Program. Indirectly supervise Registered
Veterinary Technicians. Qualifications: Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine degree with at least two years of experience in a wildlife
setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
