Job Description:
Primary Purpose Under the supervision of Professors in the
Department of Biomedical Sciences performs a variety of laboratory
procedures for the research laboratories of faculty within the
department. The research assistant reports to the Laboratory
Manager. University of the Pacific recognizes that diversity,

staff. Essential Functions Maintain the research laboratories to
include but not limited to: Conduct research experiments, analyze
research data, and provide reports, as needed. Maintain cell lines
and frozen cells in accordance to good laboratory practices. Ensure
proper functioning of lab equipment, request repairs as needed.
Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, order as needed.
Sterilize lab instruments and reagents. Assist students and faculty
with research projects, as needed. Perform all other duties as
assigned by Laboratory Manager. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge
of: Basic laboratory procedures. Molecular and protein analysis
including, but not limited to, PCR and Western analyses.
Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, and Photoshop. Experience:
Minimum one year of experience with cell culture, microbiology and
molecular biology techniques including solutions preparation.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology,
biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, cell biology, immunology,
physiology, or related field. Working Conditions: Position is
full-time, eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week.
Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens or biohazardous
materials may reasonably be anticipated. Personal protective
equipment will be provided to reduce or eliminate exposure to
routine or limited infectious agents. Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of: Eukaryotic and bacterial cell culture, ELISA and PCR
, Western blot, Immunostaining. Ability to: Operate (or be trained
to operate) laboratory equipment to include ultracentrifuge, flow
cytometer, spectrophotometer, microplate reader, confocal
microscope, and fluorescence microscope. Work with biohazardous
material. Draft standard operating procedures and follow
established safety protocols. Multitask and be flexible in
organizing and prioritizing work. Work independently and as part of
a team, collaborating with others. Record and communicate results
clearly. Other: Experience and sensitivity in working with people
of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in
advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university
setting. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive
practices and knowledge in their work.
